Stock wiring for stereo

This is for a 1999 Monte Carlo. My friend purchased a cd player for his car, and we want to install it but noticed that the wiring that came with the cd player is totally different than stock. Could someone tell me if the Chevy stock wiring is all the same? Or give me a how to. I've done this many times, but I just need to know what wires hook up to the others. Seems like more cavalier peopel know about cars so I am asking you here.

You need to buy an aftermarket harness that plugs into his factory harness then the wires should match in color on the aftermarket harness to the wires from the deck. It should be easy from there. Check out wal-mart...they should have them cheap.

Re: Stock wiring for stereo

or if it was bought used and the previous owner cut out the harness like my buddys neon then you will have to call gm or chevy and ask them to look it up on their computers.

Re: Stock wiring for stereo

Thanks for the info guys. We got tired last night after working on it for like 2 hours and decided to give up, hook it back up the right way (kinda) and take it to have it done professionally. Not sure what they're reactions is going to be when they find out that we tried to do it ourselves. Good thing it wasn't my car.

How were you trying to hook it up? Were you using an aftermarket harness or were you trying to connect the wires directly? If you take it to get it done professionally they will hook it up with an aftermarket harness, and charge out the ass for it.
