ignition mechanism swap...help!

can anyone help... I have faulty ignition switch on my fiests...have removed barrel from column and trying to fit replacement (with new key)...it fits easily...slots in but will simple not start the car although it turns the gnition on any ideas?

Hi, I have just performed this same procedure and am now experiencing the same problem! I have diconnected and reconnected the battery, checked the fuse, but casnt get it to work.. as a test i replaced the old one, and that won't work either. Does anyone please know how to fix this, your help is much appreciated!

Is the ignition switch ok (the electrical part)? It may be worn and sticking.
