Rear

Hi all. Couple quick questions for ya. First off I got my last oil change at 123k on my 96 3.8 camaro. The guy informed me that he noticed some "moisture" around my rear end up on top. Just wondering if this is a common problem or what the issue may be. Secondly I've had a speaker box with 2 12" subs in back for awhile now and when I hit a bump i hear a huge "dump" like the wheel well is gonna pop through the carpeting. Just wondering if that's a worn out spring or shotty shocks or even worse both. The right rear sits a bit lower than the other side and that's where the sounds coming from. However it' the pig that's bothering me, this "moisture" thing. He said he check the oil and he said it was at a normal level, just not looking forward to any big repair bills and if it is something to fix it before my rear locks up. Thanks for any help I appreiate it.

I'm also sad to her about hypsi, I talked with him a few times when I first got my camaro and was on the board alot, he was a great man, and the same age as I am. I feel terriable and my condolences to any of his friends on the board here.

Thanks, Ryan.

Re: Rear

Mositure? As in condensation, water, H20 residue? If it's truely moisture I don't think you have anything to worry about.

It may be oil from the rear end or a fuel leak, which would be more troubling.

I think you can rule out a worn spring, if it's busted (i.e. cracked) it may be your problem. I'd lean toward either a failed or unsecured shock.

Re: Rear

Yeah the moisture was oil from the rear end but he only said it was like dabbled around.

Could be a bad pinion seal, maybe a leaking diff. cover gasket. If the gear oil level is ok, and there isn't much of a leak I wouldn't worry too much, but don't let it get low. Changing the cover gasket is an easy job if it's the source of the problem. Replacing the pinion seal is a little more work.

Re: Re: Re: Rear

I forgot to mention, gear oil is real thick, if the leaky fluid has a watery viscosity, it's probably brake fluid.
