Exclamation 1991 rear end id

could someone tell me what kind of rear end my 1991 rs camero has in it ,its the original one that came in it. 7.5,8.5,8.8?? what about the ratio? i want to put a locker in it, and maby a set of lower gears. what is a good street/strip gear ratio?? thank you

Ring gear should be 7-5/8 (located on bottom center of i.d. tag)

'91 RS axle ratio -
V6 manual trans: 3.42 auto: 3.23
V8 manual trans: 3.08 auto: 2.73

Sure you want lower gears? Most people want higher gears, you lose a bit of top speed, but it gives you more low-end torque. If you want to keep it streetable, as a daily driver, I wouldn't go higher than 3.73.

ya dont go over 3.73's id probably go with either 3.73's or 3.42 i have 3.42 and i enjoy them alot....i even get better gasmilage then when i had my 2.73

im looking to install a locker/spool any suggestions? how do i tell if its a 28 spline?
