pushed to the ground

so my friends ranger broke down a while ago, turned but wouldnt start, no biggie we towed it to his house. but the thing is that he lives in permit parking so the parking nazi is always there. so anyway we were burnt and put it in the wrong place next day he got a ticket. so we pushed it again.

thing is it was uphill to push the car forward and downhill to push it backwards into a spot. so we pushed downhill adn thus backwards. the entire time the pushing was happening his girl was steering the car in nuetral with the ignition on and the battery dead. no biggie right?

well, while we were pushing we heard this loud clicking sound coming from the engine we thought it was the tow hitch that we left on but since then i was wondering what else it could have been.

any ideas?
