What is the timing?
1992 S10 Blazer, 4X4, 4.3L, TBI, VIN "Z"
Can anyone tell me what the timing specification for my vehicle is and how to properly adjust it? I don't have an underhood label anymore. Thank you very much.

I've tried calling one dealer and he said he didn't have a way to look it up. He said he deals with computers now that adjust automatically. O'Reilly Autoparts told me TDC, but I don't know if that's right. Any of you guys have a mechanic you can ask with a book?

if i get a moment ill look it up tomorrow, but you need to line up the timeing marks on the timeing chain, that will be tdc on piston number one, both valves closed, on the beginning of the power stroke

My question is, where should the timing mark on the harmonic balancer fall when checking the timing of the 1 plug wire? I don't have timing numbers, rather a big notch and two smaller notches after that.

cyl. number one should be at tdc, both valves closed... not sure on where the mark should be

Hello,
Timing mark on the balancer should be on 0deg. Pull the distributor cap off and see if the rotor is pointing at #1 wire. If not, it's 180deg out. Just rotate the crank another 360 (cap will move 180) and it should be pointing at #1.
If it's not, loosen the bolt on the bottom of the distributor and rotate the housing until the rotor is pointing at #1. This will get you +/- a degree or two and the motor really won't care about that.
There is a more advanced method but I use my timing analyzer for it. Unless you're a mech don't go spending the money on tools you'll probably only use once.
