New Shocks!!!

Hey guys, the time has come for me to get some new shocks and I was just wondering if anyone had any input on what shocks would make a great new pair. I have a 2000 z71, no lift. And I just want a pair of great shocks... not special offroad shocks, just a good day to day pair.

I was asking a similar question about the Rancho 9000x but I didnt get many replies. But if your looking for a stock style replacement go with Bilstein or Monroe Sensatrac. I believe the Bilstein are like stock that come on the truck. Ive had good luck with monroe in the past for my cars. I want the ranchos for the adjustable ride control and the off road capability they have. Hopefully you get some better answers than i did. and good luck choosing.

I just put Rancho RSX shocks on mine (0" lift) and got 4 for $168. I like the ride a lot, but I guess anything is better than the original shocks that were on it; they were shot to hell. I would get Bilsteins on my VW TDI but not on my truck. Doesn't Bilstein have a reputation for stiff ride ? The nice thing about changing the shocks on the truck is that you dont even have to jack it up except to line up the holes (so you don't have to compress the shock too far during install)

Re: New Shocks!!!

So you would reccomend the ranchos.... that is what I am looking at because they are wayyyy cheaper than the Bilsteins and I want to know why??? Aren't Ranchos supposed to be great shocks???

KYB MonoMAX

I'm using the KYB for trucks and I'm pleased but can only compare them to the stockers which were terrible.
I'm told the Edelbrock IAS is the best and they use the same cartridge damper technology as mtotrcycle forks. I have cartridge forks on my Honda and they are outstanding.
I've had the KYB's for years, they've held up well. They are big, heavy and come with boots.
I bought from Summit and it appears they're about $50 each. The IAS appear to be at least $75 each.

MonoMax™ Heavy Duty Shocks are specifically engineered to provide better handling and control for SUVs and light trucks. These world class shocks feature a high pressure monotube design which allows for a safer, more stable ride, and an extra large piston and piston rod to handle even the most demanding driving conditions. MonoMax™ Heavy Duty Shocks are also available for lifted applications.

Re: New Shocks!!!

My thoughts exactly silverado4.8 ... what is the deal with the bilsteins??? Are they good or not??? are they worth paying more for than buying Ranchos (which I have heard nothing but good things about). Does anyone have ranchos on non-lifted silverado that can tell me if they like them???

Im hopefully going to install the Rancho 9000x this weekend, im not sure about the ones your looking at. The 9000x suit more of my needs in my truck, if you havent done anything by this weekend, i'll tell you what i thinks of them. the 9000x runs about 90.00 a shock and features and adjustable ride control.

Re: New Shocks!!!

I had a '97 Sanoma ZQ8 Performance Package ( SS Supension) and it cam stock with Bilsteins. I loved the ride, stiff in the corners when hard on them and yet soft enough for daily driver. Put some on a '91 Sportside Reg Cab and loved the smooth ride. They make 2 versions, Heavy Duty and Regular.

Well im checking back in with this thread after installing my new Rancho 9000x shocks on all 4 wheels. The install was fairly easy took me about an hour and a half give or take. The ride is nice so far, i have left it mostly to paved surface settings (3-5) havent cranked it up to 9 yet, but maybe soon i will have to take it out to the North shore of Oahu again for some fun. The truck has 79k miles on it, the rear shocks were completly shot, the front shocks suprisingly could have gone a little bit longer, eh but why wait. If any one has Questions about these shocks feel free to ask and i'll give you as much info as i know. Oh and also right now Rancho is offering a Manf. rebate depending on which style you buy.
