Blazer and Trailer

I have a 99' Blazer that is very well maintained. I also pull on the weekends a V nosed enclosed 6x10 trailer with dirt bikes. I have about 225# of tougue weight on a class 3 hitch with an overall weight of about 2200# of trailer and stuff. I run at about 70 with cruise control on. It is 98% flat and the hills we run across are small. I have been running in 3rd gear as the Owners manual says to do but was thinking that with the speed I run that I could use Overdrive. It would take me from 3K RPM's to around 2K RPM's or less. Will this work the trans. to hard??

If you are completely flat or downhill you can run in overdrive. The only problem is if you do that and the tranny feels the need to keep downshifting then upshifting you will start to cause a lot of heat to build up and possibly damage your tranny. When I tow I do the sped limit if not 5 miles under and just leave it in 3rd unless downhill or completely flat.

First of all, have you serviced your transmission with new fluid and a filter lately?

Complete Trans flush from a trans shop along with filter and all gear box fluid exchange.

The OD only worked for a very short time, as soon as i hit even the smallest of hills or pulled around a Semi it started down shifting. I guess 3rd will have to do.

Of course it is going to down shift when you are overtaking someone o going up hills.

We said it will only stay in OD on flat road with low drag.
