95 cavalier will not drive in any gearstomos 09-06-2005, 06:17 PM My car will not go anywhere when shifted into any gear including reverse. I would like to hear any ideas of what it could be before i go and slap a new tranny in it. Please help! i3o2Matt 09-07-2005, 10:53 AM hmm...can you hear it lock into gear? if yes, the drive main drive belt inside the trans is shot...if not...the cable attaching it to the trans is shot...either way...chances are you need a rebuild... Dude don't rebuild. I just had the same problem. My cavalier would start but would not move in any gear. It just slides up and down with no problem but will not engage in any gear. I had it doulbe and triple checked. The first few mechanix said new tranny needed or rebuild and I was like no way. I found out it was just a trans shifter cable that is all. I picked up the part myself and took it to a mechanic and they installed it and walla!, my car shifts with no prob now. If you want more info on this or a diagram that the autoparts servicer gave me let me know and I will email it to you.
