Unhappy Transmission shifts hard

I have a 1994 F-150 5.0 litre, and when the transmission shift into all 3 gears, you get whiplash. the engine will rev some what high then all of a sudden, the trans kicks in, there is no smooth shift in the tranie. Is there an adjustment on the endgine, or tranie to correct the shifting problem? thanks

Take a look at your tranny fluid. check the level and also see if it has any metal in it. Does it smell burnt? Sounds as if a valve in the valve body is sticking. If you see metal flake in the fluid your tranny is on its way out. If not you could try a flush and new filter.
Good luck.

Trans filter and fluid are fiine, I checked the speed sensor on the rear axle, that's ok, but I noticed that the speedometer sometimes does not work, when that happens, the truck shifts hard, but when the speedometer works, it shifts fine???? Any ideas. Thanks

Re: Transmission shifts hard

Found the problem, the speedometer is electonic, I took the dash apart, and found a loose wire behind the cluster. Shifts perfect everytime.
