I need my rotors resurfaced and was planning on taking them off myself and taking them to pep boys and cutting them there. I called up Honda to find out how much they charge for the service and they said $68.
They also told me that on the 98 and up Accords they resurface the rotors on the car. They don't take them off. So my guess is that I'd have to let them do the service. They said that if they take them off and resurface them, they may not be even and I might feel brake pulsations, which I do now. What do you guys think? :smoker2:

I had my rotors resurfaced about a month ago. Yeah, they dont take em off the car. I had mine done at a dealership and I am highly upset. They charged me about $160. I was gonna take it somewhere else, but I was down in Florida at school, so I wasnt near my usual shop (Im from chicago and live in the suburbs now) I knew the dealership was a screw job, but I didnt know they would rape me that bad! :(

If you can get it done for 68 bucks, go for it!!! Especially at the dealership. Dont play the fool like I did.

BTW, where are you and what dealership said 68? I think I might try to get my money back from the place that did mine. It would help me alot if you could give me the # to the place too. Just lemme know when you get yours done, so that way, the dealership wont change their mind when they hear somebody is mad that they do it so much cheaper than another dealer. i dont wanna screw you out of the good price!:D

$68 is pretty good, most of shops around here charge $20-$25 per rotor.

buy new slotted rotors, EBC slotted from TireRack.com, only $100 pair.

The dealer is Hollywood Honda or Maroone Honda now down in Hollywood Florida. Ed Morse Honda in Ft. Lauderdale wanted $85 and North Miami Beach Honda wanted $120. I'm going to the Hollywood one on Wednesday to get it done. I can't wait to get rid of that annoying noise and slight pulsing from the brakes. :smoker2:

hey wassup. i had my rotors machined in the past. didn't cost me anything. if you're still in high school or have a friend still in high school, see if they have an auto shop. then check to see if they have the machine to cut at the rotor. i forgot what the machine is called. but anyway.. if they do, just talk to the teacher there... and if he's cool, he'll have one of the students machine your rotors for you as an assignment. the rotors should be machined by 3 hours maximum. i took my car to my old high school auto teacher, and he had one of his students take off my rotors, machine them, put them back on, balance my tire, rotate my tires. i was about to get an allignment too, but i had to be somewhere. well.. hope this info helps.

I can't write with authority about rotors on a '98, because I have an '89, but I think the general principal may still apply. I've had such bad luck trying to salvage existing rotors with resurfacing that I wouldn't even attempt it any more. It seems like they're never quite as good as new afterward and are more prone to warping. This has been my experience with resurfacing in general - on or off the car. I've even had them resurfaced by the dealer.

What I do now is just buy new rotors. I went to Advance Auto Parts and bought them for my car for about $20 each - brand new, and installed them myself. I was skeptical too, considering the price, but they appeared to be well made and I've had them on there for about a year and have had absolutely no problem with them. Even if you pay more than I did for them, I still think it's worth it just to get new ones.
