I bought a new switch for my 91 a few years ago, and then found that the switch was OK! the switch is actually near the base of the column and is controlled by a rod that runs thru the column and connects to your control handle. The switch can work loose a bit and the rod won't quite open/close the circuit, so you might be able to just pull back a bit and tighten. It is kind of cramped under there but be patient. Might have to remove a panel under there, I don't remember, but if you have a good light and are patient, it won't be tough. Look under there with a light and move the control handle, you will see it.

Done!

Thanks JSGold,

I was told by the local chevy dealer (service manager) that I needed to pull the steering wheel. After reading your reply I decided to give'er a look myself. Sure enough I think your answer was right but to be safe I replaced the switch anyway.

Here is a quick step by step from my perspective:

Remove cover under steering column (3 hex screws & 2 Phillips screws)
Locate hi-lo switch (about half way between wheel and fire wall)
Check to see if switch has moved, slotted holes will allow this
Adjust if possible
If not, remove 6 - 1/2" hex bolts that hold column in place
A 10mm wrench removes the lower nut & 8mm the fwd bolt on the switch
Remove wiring harness clip
Reverse.

NO REMOVAL OF STEERING WHEEL IS NECESSARY!

Thanks again JSGold
