Eurovan 93 Check light up, motor stalls

i have been experiencing internittently alerts by the chek light followed soon by motor stalling. After waiting for a relative short time motor would start again and in most cases would work fine .Local mechanic and VW dealer looked into it ,rtor cap changed , a new relais in teh electronics, but problem still there.
I seem to know that stalling is going to happen before light come up, by a subdued humming noise and a certain resistance in the drive , which wouldnt be there when things are normal.
grateful if suggestions for cure or similar experiences with succesful solution. Thanks
