P0401 EGR Low Flow DCT engine light

The engine light on my 2001 Tribute came on a few months ago. Not trusting Dealers I bought Auto Enginuity (www.autoenginuity.com) ScanTool OBD-II software and Connector ($220). I am very happy with the connector and the program. It allowed me read the trouble code and reset the engine light. Of course it came back on a short time later (expected). I also have the Dealers Repair Manual. I looked up the trouble shooting for P0401 and did a little research on the WEB. It appears that Ford has had problems with their Differential Pressure Feedback Exhaust Recirculation Valve. (DPFEGR). Most of what I read linked this trouble code to the EGR valve Pressure Sensor. (DPFEGR - samething). Right now it is a Dealer Only Part. I went to Mazda and learned that they have extended the Warranty on the part only to 70K and 7 years. As it turned out it was more of a hassle to leave the car and have them replace the part then it was for me to spend the $40 and do it myself. It takes about 5 minutes to switch the sensor out and most anyone should be able to do it. I reset the engine light and the trouble has not returned.

Right now this is a Dealer only part. So you will have to contact a Dealer. I don't know if there are Mazda Dealers where you are. You might try having a friend CONUS buy one at a Dealer and ship it to you. Sorry I'm not more help.

Re: P0401 EGR Low Flow DCT engine light

I scanned the page from the manual with the directions on how to replace the EGR sensor. I am tring to post it here, but I have my doubts about if it will show up or if you will see a link to the file on my Hard drive. If this doesn't work. I can e-mail it to you directly. The sensor is near the oil dip stick.

Re: P0401 EGR Low Flow DCT engine light

As a follow-up. The engine light on my Mazda came on again last week. Using the Scantool OBD-II, I plugged into the vehicle and recovered the trouble code. P0442. Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Monitor and System Malfunction. Sounds bad doesn't it. The first Possible Cause listed... loose fuel cap. I reset the engine light and the problem has not resurfaced even after 30 cycles. (cycle - starting, running and stopping the vehicle.) The ScanTool has been worth every cent. Just FYI. Steve

Re: P0401 EGR Low Flow DCT engine light

Hello,

I'm having this problem myself and hoping to replace the part, but it would be really great if you could send me a copy of the instructions you mentioned in this forum: (http://www.automotiveforums.com/t449...ine_light.html)

Please let me know if you can. Thanks!

By disconnecting the battery and then reconnecting it. Use the negative terminal.
