I was on my way to the mall to surprise my mom and have lunch with her. Well, in all honesty it was an excuse to drive around with my new electric cutout(1 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/flatlander757/Car%20Related/E-cutout/001.jpg), 2 (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v294/flatlander757/Car%20Related/E-cutout/003.jpg)) :evillol:

So I had washed my car earlier in the day, so me being the obsessive nut I am, decided to take the long way to avoid some construction going on :uhoh: Well I am driving down this huge 4 lane road(4 each way) and there are stoplights at distances far enough apart to be perfect for racing with the added bonus of not a lot of stores around for cops to watch gaurd from. I am listening to the deep and throaty rumble of my new cutout(which I love if you haven't figured out already) when a light ahead maybe 80ft turns yellow so I slow down to a stop. To my surprise a red Cobalt SS(supercharged) pulls up next to me a few moments later, but its a chick :sly: Honestly I've never seen a girl race before and figured she wasn't going to do anything, she didn't rev or look at me or anything, just edged up once as many people often do. When potentially quick cars are beside me I will try to pace them and edge in front so I'm ahead which will usually cause some people to bite. Well she surprised me and gave it a little gas, me likewise to stay even then she completely floored it, and I must say: those things are darn quick!

But not quick enough :grinno: She got a quick gain of about one carlength on me when she floored it simply because I didn't think she would race in the first place so it kinda took me a second for the idea "floor it" to sink in. Once I did, the sound of my open cutout nearly made me orgasm  It was so loud and sweet sounding words could not describe it... but dammit she was in front of me. Then I noticed the car wasn't exactly going straight... I was spinning the tires! A moment later the tranny shifted and I was peeling through second as well... The cutout was so freaking loud I couldn't tell (audibly) whether I was spinning or not but I'm guessing about mid second gear my tires realized "hell no we ain't losing to a 4 banger!" and in about 2 seconds I had gained back what was lost in the first 80ft or so and we were about neck and neck. VROOOOOM.... burp... squeek-- VROOOM I was in third gear and put about 2-3 lengths on her then shut it down at about 95 mph or so since there was another light and a few cars ahead.

I didn't get a chance to see her at the next light, she had pulled over to the far left lane and I was in the far right since I needed to turn at the next street. I'd say that's a worthy kill for the 194,000 mile Z28 :iceslolan

Cliff notes: Raced a lady in her Cobalt SS... she got :owned:

i really dont know what it is but its the same way when i wanna race someone, i refuse to look over at them..well while at a dead stop. if im next to some one on the roll then i will look over at them.

Just for clarification... I mean ancestor as in Chevy is marketing the Cobalt SS as their performance sedan... much like the Camaro was up until 2002.

We've all seen the commercials of the Cobalt playing ball with a Corvette... I think that shows its the Camaro's successor(until they bring it back!! ::crosses fingers::)

It opens a lid and dumps the exhaust out of the bottom / side. I might put one on my stock downpipe for a while :grinno: .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't cobalt ss's supposed to run like a mid to high 14? I'd expect you to wax one, even in a stock lt1

I honestly don't know what Cobalts run in stock form.

Here's a good idea of how it works:

You might have been racing one of the non S/C Cobalts dude. Unless the girl just didn't know how to drive worth a damn, you didn't pull three lengths on the S/C version by 95. Not with that old automatic Lt1.

Good kill non the less.

LT1 can run low 14's 14.3
cobalt ss can run mid to high 14's or even 15's

is he stock? if not that adds more power and a bigger difference

around those speeds, .2 sec is almost a whole car length. like 3/4ths

lol man you are way to over confident in your low 15's high 14 second car. I mean even my stock Supercharger cavalier automatic would beat you. Not by much, but i have an automatic to your 5 speed. So i think an LT1 would easily put 2-3 car lengths on you.

When did I say my car was king?

I just have a hard time believing a worn out Lt1 with an auto tranny put 3 lengths on the SS by 95 mph. What's the matter with that? I didn't freak out about it did I? Did I flame the shit out of him? No. Maybe he did put three lengths on the SS, but if so, i'd say it was due to the driver more than the car.

Hell, 90red has been in my car and he's no idiot. Lets see what he thinks about all of this.

What's been done to your Z28 besides cutouts flatlander?

flatlander's car has a got to have tired engine...almost 200,000 miles on that sumbitch....against a fresh new cobalt SS, i'm sure it would a pretty even match IF THE COBALT had a good driver....but obviously not in this case.....good kill....i think if a manual LT1 is hitting low 14s then an auto with 200,000 miles would be mid to high 14s.....looks pretty even to me...i'm with bulldog on this one and calling it driver error that she lost by so much....unless you have a couple of mods.....that's different..

Thank you for being a level-headed, normal person crunk.

I was in no way implying that my car was the destroyer of all cars. I mearly stated the fact that he wasn't "putting a cobalt ss in it's place". More so, he put a girl who couldn't drive her car in her place. Either that or he raced the 2.4 n/a SS.

I have a hard time believing it too. I posted a kill a couple of months ago against an LT1. Suprisingly I took him in the first two gears even though I didn't go all out at the launch, and once I hit third I was gone.

I have a hard time believing it would put 3 CLs on a Cobalt SS that easily.

I didn't feel it was important to post at the time but I guess I should have, the car had the temporary plates on it so I agree it probably was bad shifting. And for your information my car had a complete rebuild at 180,000(or so the paper I recieved upon buying my car(at 191,000) say. All I have is the cutout and a deleted knock sensor(so the car doesn't retard timing at all due to the false knock, makes it feel like a whole 'nother beast). My car is just about all highway miles anyways, (was) a one owner car, and the guy had owned like 3 other F-bodies before the Camaro I bought from him, the guy took care of the car. If I can find the adapter for my video camera I'll go out and try to videotape something whenever I get a chance.

I honestly swear I saw Supercharged under the SS emblem on the rear, but didn't really give it much though, I was under the impression that EVERY Cobalt SS was supercharged, I've never really looked into them.

But chances are she didn't drive it right.

And on second though I was just guesstimating how far ahead I beat her by, I just glanced in the side mirrors which distort stuff... I really don't want to turn my head around at 90+mph...

Don't get your panties twisted cause some chick lost a race to a V8 car in the samething you have.

Shit happens, very little cars run the same numbers posted by magazines. I always tend to add in half a second to any time a magazine posts.

And lots of those cars are 16 second cars... depending on the driver. ;)

Above all, I just don't want to see you turn into another Dampachi. He was actually a cool dude before he bought his Mustang. Then he got super cocky and arrogant about his stock Mustang and that it's shit didn't stink.

bulldog, a guy tells a story about beating a car and someone who owns the car jumps up and gives the first doubt.
we have seen this many many times, its actually kinda funny because i was wating for you to say that, and i'm sure redneck had some bets in his mind also.
i beat a srt-4 once and three neon boys starting rambling at the mouth.

there have been a few people on here who have killed a vr4, i say nothing except good kill.

would it make you feel any better if flatlander said 1 and a half car lengths? why does the saying "you beat the driver not the car" saying have to come out? he one. he didnt beat you specifically so there should be no question, cause everyone here knows wich car is faster. what happens on the street is what happens on the street, know what i mean?

dont take this as i'm going off on you, i just wanted you too know why redneck had a laughing face at the end of what he said and why we spoke up quick, nobody should have to worry about another member bieng upset because the car they own got beat. i'm not saying you are, but people can really get that impression. just so you know were we are coming from. your a cool guy man, just giving you some game :)

 yeah your right, but regardless nobody should get mad even if a guy had the exact same setup, there is no reason to get mad.

BullDog71ss
08-31-2005, 11:26 AM
Actually I wasnt upset at all because my car got beat. Hell I happily post all my deaths, you guys know this. And of course there are faster cars out there, I'm no fool.

I was however a little miffed when flatlander said "I put a cobalt ss in it's place." So what place exactly does a cobalt SS belong in then? This may not seem like a big deal to some of you, but to me it's a bit disrespectfull. If he had not said something of this nature I wouldnt have said anything but good kill, even though I had my doubts about his supposed 3 car lead. But his statement made me just irritated enough to speak up. It's a matter of respect is all, I don't ever say "I put a vehicle/owner in it's place" nor do I do any other car bashing, and I sure as hell don't like it when others do it, wether it's a vehicle I own or not. This instance it just happened to be a vehicle I can vouch for, since I own one.

And at the end of the day, I'm still a Camaro guy at heart. There is no other vehicle that I'd rather hear about beating my big-wing-econo-car.

flatlander757
08-31-2005, 12:12 PM
You're right, now that I think about it it is a bit disrespectful... Sorry that you took offense to that. I didn't mean for it to come out that way.

For clarification... when I say 3 carlength lead, I mean 3 lengths away from being neck and neck... not 3 BETWEEN us...

I'll see if I can change the thread title for you...

edit: nvm it won't let me change it :banghead:

This will be a nice reminder to all(including myself)about being warry of how to word things, so as not to sound disrespectful towards others and their vehicles. Disputes like these are how we advance our community. We learn from this stuff, so long as it doesnt get out of hand in which case Matt will happily shut it down.

Lesson learned: Be careful of what you say about others and their cars...except Neon's, go ahead and rip them a new one ;)

I agree with what young said earlier. I mean, a couple thousand Hondas get killed a day. I got no beef with anyone slaying a Honda. The joke is actually on whoever races one. Cause in reality, you beat a 17 sec car, and for some reason, those that do win, seem to be proud of that fact. Things have changed since my days, it's a crazy world.

turtlecrxsi

Very true, but not all Hondas are 17 second cars. I think the pre air-bag econo box hondas like my crx and the 4g civics can get into the 15s easily with mods. It's still no big deal though... I really like the Cobalt SS and newer Z24s, and the Camaros like Flatlander's car.
