Talking 02 Tacoma 4 cyl. belts, R & R

Hello, just found this Forum. Looking forward to visiting often.

I have 2RZ-FE engined Tacoma with 62000 miles on it and am wondering when to change the three belts, Fan, A/C Compressor and Water Pump drive belts. They look ok, but looks can fool. Called a local dealer and they said they change them at 90000 miles. Is changing these three belts do-able for a home mechanic? They look pretty straight forward, but would appreciate any help from those that have done this work.

Here's some instructions from the Toyota Service manual at the top of this forum:

Thanks Brian. I will try to locate the service manual you talk about, at the top of this forum, for further advise.

your belts will probably last 'til 120+K, but dealer says
90K because that is when they (technically) have to come off anyway; as 90K is the recommended Toyota timing belt change.
(isn't the 2.7L a chain?)

2RZ-FE has a timing chain.

Change the belts when they get cracked and weak. Mileage on the belts is less important than age, as it is for most rubber components. The belts get oxidized by the air and heat, not worn down.

Thumbs up

Thanks again Brian, and ctesla. I purchased Goodyear Gaterback Poly-V belts and will probably change them soon. Looks like each belt comes off by loosening the lock bolt and then backing off the adjuster bolt to slip the belts off, then back on, and reverse the process.

I still haven't located the Service Manual at the top of this Forum. It must be right in front of my nose!
