I have a 2001 V6 four door Tacoma. It runs great except for when I apply the breaks at really low speeds (like 5 mph and below). When I am driving at these low speeds and press the breaks to gently slow down the truck shakes violently until the truck stops or the brakes are released. I have bled the brakes and replaced the brake pads recently, yet the problem remains. Anyone have an idea what I should be looking at or what I should expect if I take it to a mechanic??? Thanks…..

It seems to me that you have warped rotors. The vibration is probably there at all speeds, you are just noticing it more at slower speeds. Rotors are very reasonably priced. Somewhere around $20.00 each. I just changed mine on my 2003 taco mini. Took about 2 hours to do both.

What type of brake pads are you using? It's possible that your problem is your pads are grabbing - not warped rotors. Try using the stock OEM pads - leave the rotors alone unless you see wobble or gouges in the surface, since they are newly refinished.

From what He has written it kinda sounds like He had the problem even before He changed his pads, I gotta agree with wrigley123 it sounds like your rotors are warped, been there done that. If you do a lot of stop and go especialy on wet roads you may have a tendency for warpage which is why I shreak a little when I do a hard stop on the wet stuff. You may want to check out Ebay I have seen some OEM rotars that an after market company had sloted and drilled, this will help with stopping but more important for you it will help keep the disks from getting to hot and warping.

Oh one more thing, I gotta agrea with Brian about the pads You really wanna whatch what type you put on especially with the life time Warranty, some of these pads are torcher on your disks. Your best bet is OEM pads every time or something as soft, You will change them out more often but you will have better stopping power, less tendancy for speekage and your rotors will last longer, you should get a light turn on the rotor every time you change the pad as well, this helps with the marriage betwean the pad and the rotor.

Rotors are so cheap why pay $10-$15 to have them turned when you can replace them for $20! If you're going to go through the hassle of taking them off....just put new ones on!
