Fog Lights....How do they turn on?

I have a 2000 z71 chevy tahoe. Bought it wrecked, put the denali front clip on it, and hooked up the fog lights to the existing wiring. (It originally had fog lights) Is there a button to turn them on or what? For some reason they won't switch on.

Do you have the fog light button by your headlights switch? Maybe it is a separate switch that this truck didn't come with that you need to install.

BPCU(body power control unit) controls the fog lamps (and a whole pile of other stuff) and you probably will have to get it reprogrammed...need a scan tool to activate.

Re: Fog Lights....How do they turn on?

i have the same problem with my fog lights. I press the button but nothing happens. I took out the fog light relay and put a wire across to short it then it lights up. The relay doesnt seem to be getting the signal from the button. So is the onboard computer to blame here too?
thanks

Do you have a 2000 Z71 newer body or old square body? the old square body had fog lights incorporated into the front bumper. if so, there is a seperate switch on the dash.

Re: Fog Lights....How do they turn on?

Get the BCM re programmed at a dealership to be setup for foglamps. Thats what happened to mine. The fogs suddenly quit working one day. I thought it was the switch and replaced that to no avail. Brought it to the dealer and after a reprogramming they worked fine again.

Re: Fog Lights....How do they turn on?

i dont have the z71, i posted here because i have the same problem with the denali. sorry for any cross posting.

are there programmers out there for the BCM? how much does a GM dealer usually charge for this? i figure if a programmer is available for 200-300 bucks it might be just better to get the unit and have the availablility to make more changes or if the fog light goes out again i dont have to pay.

Now if the dealer only charges 25 bucks or something like that i wont bother with it.

an other question: is there software out there for pc so i could jerry rig to my laptops serial port?
