if you don't want to go to the dealer (who will try to charge you 1/2 to 1 hour labor ~$50) try www.keylessride.com, or www.remotesunlimited.com.

Take out the comma from the link

www.keylessride.com (doesn't load with the comma after .com).

Use the manual, or go to the dealer. Dont ask around here because most of us had our dealers take care of that for us.

How to program a 1998 Volkswagon Jetta Wireless Remote (Clarion)
----------------------------------------------------------------
Note: This requires two car keys and a wireless remote.

1. Put the 1st key in the car's ignition. Turn the key so that the electrical system comes up, but don't start the engine.

2. Get out of the car and close the car door.

3. Put the 2nd key in the drivers side door and lock the door.

4. Turn the key in the drivers side door to the left and hold it there until the car beeps 3 times. (this enables programming mode)

5. On the wireless remote, push the Lock, Unlock and Trunk buttons.

6. Once again, turn the key in the drivers side door to the left and hold it there until the car beeps 3 times. (this disables programming mode)

The remote should now work with your car.
Enjoy,
Pat
