hook up tachometer in 92-95 civic

take out the gauge cluster and on the backside of it, the same side as the temperature gauge there is a harness and the 3rd or 4th wire down is a blue wire, cut that and splice in the wire for your tach, then in the middle of it at the bottom the 2 outside ones can be used for power...the bad thing about that is the lights on the tach turn on anytime the car is turned on.

Re: hook up tachometer in 92-95 civic

I hooked up a tach to mine but it doesn't move the same. For every 2,000 RPM the original tach does the aftermarket one moves 1,000 RPM. It pisses me off but I bought it for the light and the looks.

you need to hook it up to the stock tach wire then. you dont have it hooked up to the right wire.

Sorry to bring this back up, I searched but I couldn't find any answers.

Is the procedure the same for a 96 Civic CX (base model, no stock tach)? My Girlfriend has a Civic and is looking to add a tach to her car, and I told her I'd help her out.

Thanks, the help is much appreciated.

as far as i know it should be...if nothing else you can get the haynes repair manual for like 16 dollars and look through the wiring schematics and find the wire that says tach send and it will tell you what color the wire is

To hook a tach up with out removing the gauge cluster is really easy. For tach imput there is a green wire under the hood directly infont of the firewall in the far left upper corner of the engine bay. So this wire is found just off a connector basicly just down and into the engine compartment from where the VIN number sits.
