Acura 3.2 TL Transmission
Has anyone heard of problems with the 2001 Acura 3.2 TL. I am not pleased with the engine performance and heard of customers needing to have their transmission replaced. Possible silent warranty issue?
Help?

man i hope this is not so. just bought one recently (bout a month ago) and i love that car...powerful (enough) rides smooth, and have all the neccessary accessories. but thn again im accustomed to driving my 95 4 cylinder accord ex. But i have a question...in my accord, after i close door and start engine, after a couple secconds the doors (all 4) automatically locks, but the TL doesnt do that...is there a setting somewhere that needs to be changed or this is just the way it is?

Actually
Actually yes, 2000, 2001 & 2002 TL's (TL-P and TL-S) are experiencing major transmission problems, slipping, grinding, the works. Its a silent recall kind of deal, if you dont have trouble they aren't going to tell you about it. I have a 2000 TL-P and I run it really hard and have yet to have any tranny problems, i have 29,000 miles on it too. go to WWW.ACURA-TL.COM its another posting board and its all about TL's all years all models, go there for more information i'm also a member on that board. theres much you can learn over there. thanx

Looks like the Tranny problem is not so silent. Does anyone have any comments to the announcement from Honda/Acura that they are extending the warranty for 00, 01 and 02 related to potential Tranny problems??????????

Yeah. My friend works for an Acura Dealer and they swap something like ten tranny's a week. Its all covered under warranty, but If you don't have a problem then yours is probably fine. They won't warranty a tranny if theres nothing wrong with it.

Yeah he's right....my uncle's cl type-s started shifting on it's own when it he was using the autostick.
My car just went back for a recall because of the timing belt.

I have a 2000 TL and as soon as I hit 30,000 My transmission blew. I was on my way home and it downshifted made some noise and I swear it sounded like "please help me" Dealer picked it up free of charge(even tolls) fixed it all under warranty and gave me a 2003 RSX to fuck around with. But when I got it back the engine was making a noise sounds like a loose engine block so I gotta bring that back before the warranty is up.
Hugs and kisses,
NAP

Acura transmissions
My Acura 3.2 CL had a transmiccion problem as it was slipping. I called on Sat and they said bring it in & they will replace it for free. On my way there while doing 65-70 mph on the highway it downshifted into first. My back was thrown out and my hip was displaced. I thought it was just like jamming on my brakes as hard as I could. It did the same thing 3 more times on the way there. Tomorrow I am getting X-rays. You would have thought they would have warned me about that when they said bring it in.

Lemons Are Sour
I own a 2001 Acrua 3.2 TL. I recently found out that my transmission has to be replaced, at the dealers expense. (Ya Think!). Regrettably the service technician directed me to continue to drive the vehicle until the parts came in. Needless to say the problem became worst and my son and I almost had an accident when the car shifted down on the highway. I selected this vehicle after a near fatal car accident and based my decision on the Acrua 3.2 TL's engine safety record. While I have a pedestrian understanding of vehicle technical make up and behaviors, I am certain that transmission failures would not be considered best in class. Acrua's silent recall position is very irresponsible and bordering on criminal. I will never consider another Acura or any other affiliate vehicle.

Hey guys, I'm searching out the tranny threads and trying to bring attention to a work in progress in effort to get Acura to recognize their little tranny problem is putting its customers in danger. I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me... http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...hreadid=112262
Thanks guys,

Driving along at 75 miles an hour and the tranny changed itself into first gear----4 times----with no way to get off the highway. In my 34 years of driving, this was the closest to being killed on the road. Now that they have replaced the tranny, how do I know it won't happen again ?
Good luck to everyone driving these things

Re: acura
theres no guarantee with the tranny issue.....hopefully it won't happen to you again but i know people who have had it replaced 4 times and then the lemon law kicked into effect. They got a brand spankin new TL. Hopefully you won't have to go that route but if you do best of luck.
