Get a 4X2 with the 5.4L engine.

Get a 4x4 with the 5.4L. You'll never get any gas mileage out of either one (I don't), so it doesn't really matter. Plus 4x4's are more practical if you're ever going off-road. Oh yeah, the front end seems to be a little weak, so don't try to throw it into a corner or you might get the tires slightly off balance. But I love it!

Maybe look for a 2001 or later. I have a 1999, 5.4L, 4x4. Love the truck. However, the passenger side head problem on the 99 and 00 is something to be concerned about. I had the head problem taken care of under warrenty. Many have not been so lucky. Total body off required to work on the motor. Expensive!!!!

don't get a 4x4 unless you plan to use it. thats just more parts to cause problems down the road.
