1994 Cavalier spark plugs

1994 Cavalier 2.2l lots of miles im sure

problem: the 2 middle spark plugs are not firing most of the time, idles rough, goes about 15mph when this happens. when they are firing, you can tell, cause it gets up and goes and not such a rough idle. tested the fire from the wires (from coil to plugs) and they just aint sparking

replaced: plugs and wires and coil pack

same issue.

any ideas? this a known issue? tried to search the forum, but im just posting for my grandfather, experienced mechanic, while i am not and im not sure what to search for and a few thousand articles in this forum

May be the control module the coils sit on?

Number 2 and 3 cylinders are on the same coil on that engine right?

It is possible that you got a bad coil from the parts store. If not, the ignition module is the next place to go. Thats about all there is left.

Also never buy cheap wires. I used to have a set that arched so bad I still have the white scorch mark on the exhaust manifold bolts.

Re: 1994 Cavalier spark plugs

You could try swapping coil positions and if the problem shifts to #1 and #4 its the coil.

Re: 1994 Cavalier spark plugs

I have seen cases where the module will feed one coil but not the other.I guess there is some wiring that runs to those terminals and they can come disconnected (its all internal, inside the epoxy).

My Cav had that problem with cylindars 1 and 4 not firing. I replaced the coil and everything worked fine again.
