99 Grand Prix GT vs. 88 Cutlass Ciera (I'm not being a moron either)
I'm just curious as to what the result should be if we race. I have the Series II 3.8L engine, totally stock. His Cutlass Ciera has a 2.3L engine and he has a new exhaust system, single exhaust if it matters that much (apparently that engine is so old I cant find any specs on it). When I look at the hp and torque numbers (I used the 2.5 in the 90 Cutlass Cieras to compare), it looks like i should beat him bad, but he's supposedly beat a 95 Caddy Deville (V8, dunno how he managed that), a 90's Thunderbird (V6), and a 97 Grand Am (4banger). He's admitted that he can't beat me in the 1/4 mile and he only wants to race 1/8 mile. I figured at that short he might have a chance since his car is over 500 lbs lighter. Also, if he actually did beat those cars, I'm wondering if he has mods he's not telling me about.
The kid is nice, but he's a wanna-be street racer (his exhaust has a ricer cannon) and I'd like to show him that he really needs a different car (or an engine swap) if he wants to race. We're gonna race Monday, so I'll post the results if anyone responds.

Re: 99 Grand Prix GT vs. 88 Cutlass Ciera (I'm not being a moron either)
the cutlass ciera was never offered with a 2.3L, he probably has a Cutlass Calais which was offered with a version of the 2.3L Quad 4 which produces 150 hp and only weighs 2480 lbs. If he does have one and is a good driver then this could be a close race. Be sure to work on your launches. Your car has a significant torque advantage and if you do a good brake-torque lauch he should be behind.

I was thinking that, so i checked with him and had him look at it agian, and its a 2.5L. I knew he didnt have a Cutlass Calais, my dad drives one, so i know the difference. He's registering for a screen name, so he'll probably be on this forum soon to tell his side, lol.

Hey guys, im the famous (i guess) racer against bruce, im not a wanna be racer, i just mess around for fun. And yes that is a varified kill list and i can prove it (most of them(the people i know)). O well, im just racin bruce for fun cause hes my friend, and i know ill probly loose. BUT, my car is faster then most people think. Its the 2.5 w/ less restrictive piping, performance muffler (doesnt sound ricy!!!!!!!), and a modified intake. Thats it. Oh, and hey, i picked up this ride for a steal @ $300 so u gotta take that into account as well, bruces was $7k.

Ok, Bruce and friend.
Good luck and be sure to tell the results some time. If you want you can either post them in the "Street Racing", here or "Drag Racing" forum. . Even though the drag racing one seems to be more about pro-drag and mods.

I'll be sure to post it on here, seeing as an 88 Cutlass Ciera won't be much to the street racers, lol. I took an S-10 with a V-8 off the line today, no wheel spin, so i figure Ryan's car should be a pushover, seeing as the launch is where he'd beat me. I'm not saying i beat the S-10, far from it, just that I took him off the line.

Okay, we finally ran and the results were what we expected. I took him off the line and ended up shutting down 2-3 carlengths because i was running kinda hot. It was fun, but later we went cruisin, and that was more fun. In our small town, we saw a Grand National, a 'Vette Stingray, and my favorite, a Grand Prix GTP. He tried to get me to run, but he woulda owned me like nobody's business. We did give each other the up though. Another question, between a 99 Grand Prix GT coupe and a 2002 Regal LS, who would win? I'm not sure if we'll run because I'm leaving for college saturday, but I figured my gearing (I'm guessing the GP is geared sportier) and bodystyle might give me an advantage. Thanks in advance.
*Edit* The 2-3 carlengths was more like 5-6, but he was with me when I typed the response so I was being nice. We went about 1/8 mile, so goin the quarter woulda been really good for my ego .

Re: 99 Grand Prix GT vs. 88 Cutlass Ciera (I'm not being a moron either)
You should win, most cause your car weighs slightly less and has some more hp. Perhaps the Grand Prix has shorter gearing then the Regal but something tells me they are the same.
This is of course, unless that Regal LS made some modifacations that can bring it closer to a GS.

The weight thing is why I was thinking I'd win, I thought the horespower was the same though. The gearing was just a guess/hope, so I'd agree they probably are the same. The race would be stock for stock, but like i said, I'm leaving for college Saturday so I won't have time to run him in the near future.
