I jsut bought a 1994 2.2l auto cav today but I also have a 1998 2.2 litre 5spd. that will cost too much to safety( 1000 bucks not even touching engine which won't rev over 2 grand) I was wondering if I could keep the '98 as a parts car for the '94 model or are the engine spec's different? And does it matter if the '94 is auto and the '98 is a 5 spd. tranny.

If memory serves, the 2.2 and the 2200 are two VERY different motors.

If the parts you want to change look identical, go fo it. Even if the engines are different some of the common stuff like alternators may be the same. I know all of the Cavalier pushrod 4 cylinders have a lot of comon parts. I am not sure if the 98 2.2 is a pushrod or a OHC motor. The 94 is definately a pushrod engine.

anything that ends in "00" as in 2200, 3100, 3400, 3800, etc are all pushrods.

I'm telling you, though, a LOT of the parts will not be in common.

On th pushrod fours many accessories and externals are the same(water pump,alt, p/s pump, a/c comp). Differences are internal things like cam, crank, pistons, and there are a couple of different injection setups TBI or Multiport.

As for the numbers 2.2L is the same displacement as 2200.
The 2200 just means 2200cc which is 2.2L Ya gotta love metrics...:-)
GM may follow some naming convention as relates to pushrods, I have never paid much attention to that little detail.
