practicality of helper springs or coil shocks

I recently purchased a 2005 taco. Every so often I haul firewood for the home, and tend to overload the bed, as it is usually heavy oak. I previously had an old s-10 chevy that would haul nearly a ton with no ill effect for many years. I was thinking of adding helper springs, and, or, shocks with helper springs the the tacoma, just to protect the suspension on the occassional overloads. Anyone have experience using such devices, do they help? Thanks for any input on this topic. Jim

airbags for heavy loads

there is a "air bag" setup for overloads. just air up when heavy, and let it out when empty.
