yea I have the same prob with my drivers window, it goes down about 6 inches and wont go back up unless you leave it for a while, then it only goes up 1 inch at a time. Really sucks when u get caught in the rain.
Im assuming its the motor.

Re: 99 Grand Am Power Windows
sound like rain? Well it is probley the switch. I've seen this on GA and Grand Prixs, the rain and dirt and any other stuff falls in the switch. Sometimes I have fixed it with a good electrical contact cleaner. Spray it in and work it back and forth with the key/power off. If youre skilled they can be taken apart but and cleaned but I would recomend Not to , they break easy. If you need a replacement look in salvage yards they are much cheaper, i think they cost around 75-80$ new at the Dealershits. Also compressed air or the can air spray might help dislodge the contaminants. Hope this helps , Good Luck!

The power windows on my 97 GA would stop working intermittantly. I have found that a slap to the fuse box cover will make them work again......for a while.

Re: 99 Grand Am Power Windows
I am currently having problems with my driver's window... I feel lucky if it goes back up.
Later on when I get some money, I was going to look up if I could replace the motor(s)[The others seem like they're about to give out to] -IE. Just get it fixed.

Re: 99 Grand Am Power Windows
you can buy some electronics cleaner, take the window switch out and spay the cleaner under the switch(the part you push up/down on top). Work it back and forth, maybe drain out any excess cleaner. I hav gotten them to work with just some compressed air into the switch and kinda working it side to side.

Re: 99 Grand Am Power Windows
I ditto xero's response. I have used (contact/switch) cleaner and it worked great to restore a good, clean contact in the switch.
I managed to find a large spray can of the cleaner at Home Depot; Radio Shack will have it too.

Re: 99 Grand Am Power Windows
Probably xero could give better info than me, but I just sprayed the underside and tried to direct as much spray to where the (moveable) contact is.
I hope I am explaining that right.... In other words, you want to try and direct the spray to where the contacts come together and touch.
I had dust in mine, and the cleaner restored a nice clean contact.
Maybe a can of compressed air would work as well; I didn't try that though because I didn't have any.
