Angry 98 Overheating,, Help! I dont know bugs!

Hey guys,
I posted a thread about the radio unlock code, forget about that!
The car frequently beeps when I shifted out of 1st... Then i noticed the COOLANT LEVEL light coming on when I first turned it on; coming and going.
After topping off the coolant, and driving around, i noticed that the coolant wasn't going anywhere...
It builds pressure, but the coolant stays in the reservior..
THE QUESTION IS...
Is there another frequent problem with cooling or should i just go ahead and replace the thermostat.
I already bought the 192deg. Valucraft thermostat but i need to know where it goes...
Can someone give a detailed explaination or a site to refer to.
Please help me out asap as Im working all weekend and need to do this tonight!
Thanks a lot!!!

Thermostat is behind the alternator on the engine.

Check the coolant temp sensor. Its on the driver side under the valve cover on the coolant pipes. It should be a square 4pin blue sensor i believe. replace that, common failure its about 40.00

Re: 98 Overheating,, Help! I dont know bugs!

Hey guys, I found the problem... It was the radiator fan (small one)
Someone before me, had dropped a set of pliers in the fan and warped out the fan.
I bought another one from ebay for 160.. thats both of the fans and shroud. another 40-50 for installation.
The termostat and coolant's flowing fine..
QUESTION... WHATS THE BLUE COOLANT LIGHT FOR? COMES ON WHEN I CRANK UP COLD.??
thanks

Time for a new water pump. Thats why its overheating, the impellers broke off and the seals leaking.

Re: 98 Overheating,, Help! I dont know bugs!

Hey, thanks for the feedback
The leak doesnt seem to be coming from the waterpump... more like the pulley near the oil pan...(crank pulley?)
But if i do need the water pump... is this it??
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Audi-...spagenameZWDVW

So is this why my fans arent coming on???
Thanks a lot for the feedback, im about to take a bat to the car!!

The waterpump runs off the timing belt. It leaks and then drips down on the crank pulley.

How much would a waterpump replacement cost (labor)

I talked to a radiator shop and they said about 350.
I also read that you need to replace some of the bolts because they cant be re-used?
What all do i need to gather before taking it in to repair.
I have already bought a waterpump off ebay with metal impellars.
thanks!

Re: 98 Overheating,, Help! I dont know bugs!

wow!
After replacing the fans, waterpump, timing belt, thermostat housing assembly, and the fuse holder on the battery.. and 500 dollars in labor... its running cool.
Only thing is, it beeps when i make left turns!?!?
Its not the coolant, cuz its filled all the way, but it APPEARS to be right under the sensor, but the TANK IS FULL!?!?!
WTF???
