Re: 94' Grand Am speed
Faster that walking, quiker than a bicycle. It'll only go as fast as it can go, with no relevance to HP. What GM lists as HP is usually under rated for better insurance prices. From what I've seen anyway. This isnt always so, but a 99 GA GT says 185 hp, a GA SE says 175hp. My 99 SE was tested at 182hp(at the wheels) with nothing changed. So they vary from car to car. So, any car is faster than walkin. \,,/

Re: 94' Grand Am speed
what do you mean project car? If you were going to race at the track, you'd need alot of work and money. 115hp is low at the track, but 115hp is easy on the gas. DO you have a quad 4, 2.4L ? I'm sure if you search these threads, you will find all kinds ideas on things you could do to improve the HP which would give better performance. I'd start simple and inexpensive. \,,/

Re: 94' Grand Am speed
the quad 4 i believe is a 2.3....Mines a 95 SE and i found it to be listed at 150HP. So i guess its where ya look for the numbers at haha but its certainly more than 115 trust me. As far a project car goes its not really the best car to upgrade. Theres no mods for the engine other than maybe putting on new headers. They dont even manufacture cold air intakes for the 2.3 (closest they make is 2.2 and 2.4) although you can easily just make one yourself to fit. So basically the only thing you can do is add a body kit and tint your windows lol. If you are willing to spend some time and money i understand that the 3100 V6 is a good swap engine. Theres a ton more mods you can do to it
xeroinfinity, where did you get the stats on HP that you mentioned above??

Re: 94' Grand Am speed
GASE 95, the manuals that come with the car, and the dealershits is where I seen what the HP is Supposed to be. Some Chilton Manuals list these also as GT 185hp, and SE 175hp thats a 3.4L engine though.
My 99' SE now is around 240hp now, but I've spent a little over 3k$ on the engine and exhaust. It was DYNO'd at the wheels, 255hp with 93 octane and a fuel additive(i went easy on it).upgraded to the 62mm throttle body, upper intake ported polished lower intake was only ported to fit upper IT, rocker rollers, perf. pushrods, headers, dual oil filters, tranny kooler, custom duals, super chip , and of course the CAI.
So frankieG, you can do alot with a 3.4L, but there are turbos, and alot of other fun stuf you can do for your Quad 4. It just costs a little money. Maybe GASE 95 is right about not the best car to spend lots of cash on, but it is ur car. Have fun with ur moding and keep it safe!

Just wanted to state that have been many versions of the quad 4, 2.3L and 2.4L, SOHC & DOHC, the HP will be different depending upon rods, displacement, heads, intakes, how many cams it has, ect . . .
here is a link that I found that has worked out well for me to make sure I got the right stuff for my motor, im sure its been posted here before, but for all the newbies here it is again ... everything I've looked into appears to be accurate
http://www.babcox.com/editorial/ar/ar40032.htm
ps, if you know what your doing im sure with the right parts a SOHC could become a DOHC pretty easily & cheaply, especially if your doing a rebuild & can put the right crank, rods & pistons in, don't forget to make sure the valves have enough clearance!
I have a DOHC 2.3L that im still working the bugs out of, but im impressed with what I can get that little motor to do.

I had an SE with the V6 and it ran like a scalded dog. 94's were also one of the least troublesome years from a quality satndpoint. My only complaint was that the thing was a squeak and rattle champion thanks to the stiff suspension and low profile tires it came with.

I've had my 95 gt quad 4 up to around 130mph on a track, and with such a light car you really don't want to go much faster as they start getting awfully light in the front end. And according to the stealership the 95 gt with the dohc quad motor it was 180 hp stock, I added a CAI, w41 cams, full length header and custom exhaust, it screams....

Re: 94' Grand Am speed
My 93' w/95 3.3L was built to blast. Bored, stroked, lower compression to9:1, for the turbo, hella tuff tranny. I only had it on the track once, toped out at 160mph+. But Skibum1111 my frontend didnt get light, it was my rear, think the wing was causeing lift and one day at 140mph on the damn road(i was young and stupid) made a pass and when I pulled back in the right lane the car FLEW into the ditch. I survied the car didnt, looking for the photos so I can show everyone how speed kills. \,,/

What were you using for a wing? Couldn't have been factory, all that thing does is keep you straight when it gets windy out...

Re: 94' Grand Am speed
ya it was the factory wing. I dont think it was made or tested at those speeds. Weird things happen when you're going too fast. It did keep the car strait in the wind, better than the new models do.

GASE 95, i think i can do alot more than tint my windows and add a body kit. I can put a dvd player in it put racing seats, a dash cover blue fog lights, paint it, put 20 inch rims on it. I can do alot more.
