Ball Joints, Bushings, Control Arms, Oh MY!! :-O

:disappoin

Possessing me is a 1992 Ford Probe GL that was 100,000 miles used when it entered my life.

After ripping out the $480 exhaust system twice from the rough Chicago Roads, and after replacing the halfshafts which the Ford Shop manual did not even come close to being accurate as to how perform the task;

I now have the following dilemma:

The passenger side ball joint on my car is about to snap and break.

Shop Manual: "Ball Joints are not a serviceable part. If the ball joint is unserviceable, the entire control arm must be replaced."

However, in this same shop manual, it says: "Ball joints are pressed in at the factory."

????????????????????????????

So if ball joints are pressed in at the factory, and if many auto parts stores carry a replacement ball joint, what exactly makes ball joints an unserviceable part??

Is the ball joint welded in? If so, I can not see it. Will the thin metal surrounding the ball joint give under the duress of pressing the old ball joint out and the new one in? Then how did the factory press the ball joint in to big with....????

Try to find a Probe in the bone yards in Chicago -- four yards I traveled to--all in vein. Try to find a control arm through parts stores to include Ford Motor Company -- I wish you luck. Try to afford an MX-6 control arm through Mazda -- if you can, then congrats on your winning the lottery.

So I beseech those knowledgeable here in this forum, of which many of you are and I thank you.

Is worth risking the life of others who ride in my car to replace a "not a serviceable part" ball joint with an after market ball joint?

Aaarrrrrgggghhhhh...... :-/

Any advise in regards towards this subject matter is appreciated.
