2003 grand am se wont start! v6

I gave the battery a boost and the car started right away. I kept the car running for about 40 mins with the air, raido, etc off to charge the battery. Tried to start the car again and it just clicks!

Any ideas?
Is the battery toast?
Is the alternator discharging?
Belts seem to be tight and in good shape?

what to do next?

check the cables to the battery.the termanals may be dirty causeing bad a connection. but if the battery wont hold a charge it's probley time for a new one. You can have it checked along with the altenator at most Autozones and several other Auto Parts stores.

First of all an alternator will not recharge a battery. It is designed to maintain a charge and replace what you have used. If the battery is fully drained then you will need to either charge it using a charger or replace the battery. If the battery light is coming on then there is a problem with the charging system. Try a fully charged battery to see what happens. I believe your problem is a totally discharged battery and a good recharge or replacement will cure the problem. A good terminal cleaning is a good idea anyway.
