I rememeber I had to do it to my bros car, but dont remember how. bratt 08-08-2005, 11:16 PM well try to remember just tell me where that service connector / plug is and i'll try to do it is it under the passenger or driver side side panel is it behind the stereo what does it look like please 1stGenRocks 08-08-2005, 11:37 PM drivers side above the fusebox. underneath the dash. it probably has a little black rubber cover over it. you hook a analog voltmeter or a small buzzer to 2 of the pins and it beeps out the codes. search for a post by landoawd that says which pins and what the codes are. the title is sopmething like how to read codes in a 1g. ill try and find it for you but this will get you started. chiltons also has directions and vfaq.com might have them too bratt 08-08-2005, 11:50 PM IS THIS IT??? You can find alot of "what if" answers by doing a SIMPLE diagnostic check. And every newb asks the same question over and over about idling and surging...check your diagnostics. Follow these steps: WITH THE KEY OFF 1. Look undwer the dash on the driver side. 2. There is a vertical plug, sometimes with a cover, thats rectangle (this is the Data Link Connector). 3. Looking at the plug youll notice that there are only a few terminals. Now using an voltmeter connect the pos to the TOP LEFT (OBD OUTPT), and the ground to the BOTTOM RIGHT (Ground). 4. Turn the key into the on Position. It will give you a read out it passes. Either Long or short jumps with the needle. Record your findings then check the code. It always reads Long jumps then short jumps, and it will repeat over and over.
