Angry 99 Tahoe Shifting Problem

Our 99 Tahoe has been working flawlessly, but today on the interstate, it started shifting hard, stopped going into OD, then when we got it home, it will not go into reverse!!
Checked all the fuses, nothing, read about a Sunshell problem, but it seems to be electrical, any ideas?

Thanks

Your transmission valve body needs replaced. Just had my done to solve a hard shifting from 1 to 2 after the tranny would warm up. Total cost was $315

Say... did your check engine light turn off? Or was it even on in the first place?

Re: 99 Tahoe Shifting Problem

Had 2 occasions that the check engine light came on. Both times code was P1870. Transmission control slippage. Had repair done 3 weeks ago. No more lights and no hard shifting.

Re: Re: 99 Tahoe Shifting Problem

I had the same problem except for not being able to put into reverse. It had a few hard shifts 6 months ago but it was getting worse. Of course it got really bad on vacation. When it got hot, second gear would hit extremely hard, and a little hard in third. Took it to the tranny shop and $2,700 later I was back on the reoad. They supposodly found a bad tourqe converter along with a bad sun gear.

Well it was the Sunshell housing, and total cost was $1800+ to fix it. However, the dealership that we bought it from, took care of all of it!!
They took care of some other small worn parts and seals, and bottom line, it shifts smooth as silk now. We really love the way it drives. Thanks for all the input.
