I dont' know if it's 4 cylinder or 6. If folks could give me the location of either on this year car with either engine type, I would appreciate it.

Re: thermostat location on a 94 grand am

A simple way it to locate the top radiator hose and follow it back to where it connects to the block. That should be the thermostat housing. Its location depends on the engine. The 2.8 or 3.1 are on top of the engine. The 2.3 and 2.4 are located on the back side of the engine near the exhaust. If it is one of these I recommend you have a mechanic change it for you as they are a bear to change.

On the 2.3's follow the heater hose towards the passenger side of the car, the funny looking lump on the back of the motor that attaches to the lower radiator hose is the thermostat housing, and GTPdad is right, its a real joy to change as you have to do it from under the car. It is doable for the average joe, just be prepared to get wet and dirty.
