Unhappy Did I mess up my transmission?

I drive a 2001 Tacoma Pickup and the other day I was backing up into a driveway. It has an auto tranny. Before I backed up I was in neutral going approx. 5 mph but then I accidenty put it in reverse while it was still going forward. The transmission made weird noises and the ride got bumpy all of a sudden but it then started backing up. I felt so bad afterwards becase this is a fairly new truck and I don't want to have a messed up transmission. My question is did I damage the transmission? It was only 5 mph.

You are screwed!

Just kidding. I have seen much worse than that done to A/Ts. What you have done is not good for it but if it is an isolated incident than you should have no worries. It is far more important that you keep clean AT fluid churning in there. Every 20k miles is a good number for the cheap stuff. Spend the extra cash on a high quality synthetic like Amsoil and you could go to 30 or 40k. Forget what your manual says, remember, they want to sell you a new transmission someday.
