Question engine turns but doesnt start

i just bought a 93 grand am gtv6 for dirt cheap from a buddy that just wanted to get rid of it. he said it needed a new water pump and it was only running on 4 cylinders but still started and ran. the car did start but was very sluggish on the road, obviously. i changed the water pump, serpentine belt and all spark plugs and wires. after doing all the work i thought it would run like a champ, instead it just cranks no start. Could it be the bad coils? after the engine turns a few times it sounds like gas is being pressurized through the intake (pssss noise) please help.

Re: engine turns but doesnt start

sounds like it could be a coil or two. If you have an old plug it works great , usually to see if they're all firing or not. double check all the wires , one could be crossed or the boot poped off the plug. I've had boots pop off just enough to not fire that plug. \,,/

Re: engine turns but doesnt start

It certainly could be the coils but it could also be the ignition module under the coils. As for the noise you hear check the fuel pressure regulator, pull the vacuum hose and see if fuel is coming out. If so you will need to replace the FPR with a new one. One other thing, make sure the security light is not on as it could be causing the starting problem.
