Hi guys, new to this forum ( but have been reading posts and replies ). ok, here's the story! I have a 1990 chevy lumina 3.1 engine and the car has been down for over two weeks doing repairs myself on it. I've owned for about ten years now and am at a dead stop on the problem. My car over the past year has had a weird starting/stalling problem and now there is no electric pulse to any of the injectors. The list of parts replaced are as follows: Fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, map sensor, o2 sensor, aic, crankshaft sensor, ignition module, 3 coils, temp sensor, tps, and now the ecm, ( put in old prom ). I am at wits end as to why there is no electical pulse to the injectors to tell them to open/close when the car cranks over, ( it will start with squirt of starting fluid sprayed into the throttle body ). Any/ all help would be appreciated.

you said you replaced the ecm, that would be my first guess? Strange problem here. Um, check to make sure the enjector wiring isnt melted to anything, or shorted or cut. Thats about all I can tell you . Sorry.

OK, started to check ALL wires and connectors and found one loose connector in courtesy panel, also;, a relay switch getting hot, ( meaning i finnally got her running ), BUT, when car warms up to hot, it still stops running. Going to get a new relay switch, ( fuse ), and give it another try!

Ok, put in new relay--it solved the problem with the injectors, but, i still have ( the car not starting when hot ) problem!!!! Someone told me that the manifold coolant temperature sensor might be the problem ( i believe that i was in error, and replaced the engine temperature sending sensor earlier ), going to give that a try in a couple of days. i'll let everyone know if that works!

sounds to me more like an ignition related problem. When it wont start check for spark. If you get no spark, replace the ignition module and/or crank sensor.

Oh-Boy, just updating here. Ok, put in new temp sensor, got her running ( at idle) so i could bleed out air from coolant lines. Had rough idle until all air was out, then smoothed out nicely. Let her run for about 1/2 hour, no problem, sounded good, took her for a test drive, ran beuatiful, ( i was so happy ), parked in driveway, shut her off, waited about 3 mins, started her up again, no problem, started right up. Went to take shower and a bite to eat, ( about 1/2 hr ), went to start her up, NO GO! Cranks over, wanted to start, ran for a few seconds then died. At this time, being so mad, i failed to notice a little puff of smoke from steering column, Did i fry a wire in there? Could that have been the problem all along? I don't know, it's going to take awhile, but i'm going to tackle that problem now, I will keep everyone posted, Thanks for all your help. It is appreciated much.

i have a 91 had a puff of smoke from colmn but it was the turn signal switch not making a good connection changed the switch and is fine now
your ignition modual could be getting hot and not working when hot
i would remove it and have someone test it
autozone can test them i'm sure other places can too
good luck
make sure the test it a few times to build up some heat in it
if it fails there its probly the modual
