'96 K1500 - Won't go into gear.Mikebuild 08-04-2005, 07:18 PM 1996 chev k1500 4X4 (elect. transfer case) Trying to shift from 4L to 4H. Would not go to 4H or 2H, stuck in 4L. Tried many times. Finally, at a complete stop, it wouldn't go into gear at all. No reverse, no drive, nothing. The 4H lite is flashing and a relay (attached to the steering column under dash) is "clicking". The relay "clicks" for a few moments, then quits. If I disconnect one of the wire connections to the transfer case, the relay quits clicking immediately. If I jack up the front end, the front wheels spin freely, as well as the rear wheels. If I shift thru the gears I sense that it's trying to go into gear and when I put it into park I can hear the tranny "grind" to a halt. The shifter moves thru all the gears but when I put it into park, it still free wheels. A local shop suggested that a "snap ring" may have broke in the tail shaft and another shop said maybe it was one of the actuators. ???????????? Help? It sat for a few hours and now it moves, in 4L. Tranny shifts R,N & D, but still won't come out of 4L. And...It was pretty hot here today.
