Cool So Brown Santa came yesterday and...

...delived my eBay special K&N FIPK for my '02, 5.3 Superado (with Flowmaster). Took about 50 minutes to install. This morning on the way to work, I basically turned her loose and WHOA...Sweet Mother of Pearl, what a differance!!! I expected something, but this is sweet.
Now I have a question. I was also surfing the net and noticed that there some after market Mass Air Intake Flow Sensors out there (IE Granatelli and Jet Performance). What caught my attention wasy that they had them for intakes with and without cold air intake systems. Is this something worth looking into for additional performance improvement or just an expensive no-go? I'm willing to make the investment if it's worth it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

From what I've heard and been told, the stock MAF's flow just as well as any aftermarket until you get over 500rwhp.

What about the funky screen? I noticed the after markets don't have it. Is that an important part of the sensing system or can I remove it for better air flow?

I removed mine, and didn't notice any difference at all. Most say that it evens the airflow across the sensors to make for a better reading. I'd say leave it in, it won't make a noticeable difference.

Re: So Brown Santa came yesterday and...

Thanks for the input. Think I'll invest (later this fall) in the Nelson Tune and for now leave the screen in. I'm still in awe how much better it runs. Now I'm having too much fun. The real test will come next week when I pull the travel trailer to So. Tahoe for 6 days of good BBQ and tasty wine!!! There's a killer hill coming up out of the valley on Hwy.50. She did good last year so I'm looking forward to it this year.

Re: So Brown Santa came yesterday and...

I have the same FIPK for my truck and I cleaned and re-oiled my filter last night for the 2nd time in 4 years. It made a pretty good difference. I never would have thought it was that dirty.
