AC not blowing- Vent problems

The AC in my 97 does not blow well out of the vents. The air is cool but the flow is very weak. When I change blower settings I can hear the vent doors move so I don't think it's the switch or vent controls.

Any idea's as to what is causing this problem? Blockage?

My 83 has a vent hose that attaches to the under side of the dashbard from where the vent comes in at the firewall. The hose is located behind the glove compartment. It has to disconnect to pull the dash, so maybe if you've recently had a stereo or windshield installed it could have gotten knocked loose..not sure it'll help at all considering difference in years, but hey...it's something.

Re: AC not blowing- Vent problems

Take out the blower motor and visually inspect the evap. core. My 89 had the same issue and it turns out the previous owner was a dog owner and it's hair plugged up the cooling fins on the evap. not allowing any air flow. Freezing of the Evap would cause the vents to not work only after time... not all the time.

Re: AC not blowing- Vent problems

Yes, I replaced the stereo a couple of months ago. Could I have knocked something loose? What should I be looking for? Thanks for all the great replies!

Re: AC not blowing- Vent problems

Well, the 97s have the A/C electrical bored right below the stereo, and it’s exposed…

Now, the Antenna Adaptor for the GM trucks can be made out of metal, or have metal parts…put metal contacting the circuit bored…and you just caused your self a problem.

Test all the controls to make sure they work. Now I know the fan speed is the problem. When you increase it, does ANY more air come out, or does it feel the same, no matter how high, or low you go?

Re: AC not blowing- Vent problems

I definately get more air flow when I increase the fan speed. Unfortunately even on high the flow is minimal.

Re: AC not blowing- Vent problems

Do the 97's have a passenger compartment filter? Is that what is in between the evaporator and the blower?

Re: AC not blowing- Vent problems

to be honest I dont know but it my 2000 it had one. if its the same theres a plastic cover under the passanger side of the dash thats where my blower fan is. fan should be closer to the passenger door and the filter is near the middle.

No. Only the new body styles (99 and up. 2000 and up on the SUVs) have them.
