abs light is on and brake warning light in flashing?

hi folks,
i have a 98 beetle with a aftermarket radio. i took it to get smog, and didn't pass. i was told that the radio might be an effect. smog tech said that the on board dash diagnostic wasn't comunicating. after the test, now the ABS light is on and also the warning brake light is flashing in the dash.. any sug.. any will help.. thx

if you bought the car with the radio installed already then you can guarentee it wasnt done by a shop i would recromend taking it to a pro to have them hook it up or you can do it yourself just find the wires that are hooked up wrong usually only 1 wire is hooked up to the wrong 1 and that could make a big differance i had such problems in my 98 regal when i hooked my radio up but found out it was just a mix up in 1 of the wires

VW has issues with aftermarket radios causing improper connection at the obd port. If you remove the radio and completely unplug it down to the core VW harness part the scanner will communicate.
