engine knocking only when cold

i have 2003 neon/sx2.0 with almost 58000 kms, recently i started hearing engine knocking when its cold in the morning. it will sound for like a minute or 2, then then will disappear. after that everything is fine. i won;t hear the noise again the through out the day. i have checked the oil and it is fine. can some help me here what could be wrong ,plugs, injectors or motors toasted, etc.

Are you sure it is an engine knock? Piston slap is normal on these cars on initial start up, and more pronouned in the winter. Just make sure you check your oil once a week, and if the piston slap doesn't go away when the car is warm, then more then likely you are running low on oil.

Re: engine knocking only when cold

I hesitate to suggest this since I doubt that it would fall into the category of only at start-up but... nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I recall somebody recently, as well as I in the past, mistook a loose spark plug as a knock. Just so happens that I replaced my plugs today and #1 and #2 were well below torque.

Just a suggestion.

It happened to me not long ago but it would make the noise all the time not just when I just started it. It also sounded more like a clicking noise than knocking
