Intake question

I had an AEM intake on my 98 dodge neon and wasnt particularly happy where the filter sat (right behind the HOT MANIFOLD??) but it did its job i guess... (ive heard AEM is the best)
and
Ive seen on honda accords.. the AEM intake goes down into the bumper for direct airflow as well as the Injen Intake.

My question is which intake is better for the SRT4... it really is probably a stupid question, but what im asking more-so, is where is the placement for each one? ive seen the AEM go down into the bumper, but i haven't seen the injen... like i said before, id hate to buy the injen and then see it end up somewhere near the manifold again on the SRT4...

I would also like to know what the performance difference is between a short ram and a cold air intake... i know a short ram usually stays up in the engine bay but why would they make 2 different intakes..? Does it depend on like say if u had a hood scoop, it would be better for a short ram cuz theres better airflow?

guys thanx

Re: Intake question

The intakes you have seen are made for the first generation of neons. The 95-99 neon didn't have space to put the intake down. I believe the only company that did something like that was K&N and you needed a batery relocator adapter. However, the SRT4 is made in the new generation plataform and acomodates more space for the intake to go to the fender (thats were the stock one is). So Ithink you will be OFF the HOT MANIFOLD the other thing people do to SRT4s is to cut out the air ram on the top of the air box in the hood (looks like the botton of a pan fron under the hood) and cut the same on top of the air box. This will ram air into the intake box. Put a high flow filter and you get some nice intake free!! (pus the cost of the air filter)

good luck

Hey thanx alot, i know iceman made an intake that goes down too but their plastic (i have heard they work good, but ive also heard they crack?)

but thats cool thanx alot... pretty much... the battle between AEM and Injen is preference right.. ? id get an AEM over injen probly anyway... but ive also noticed... and forgot to add... that most injens i see, are 2 piece.. whats the deal with that? its too big to ship?

thanx again

I haven't heard of them cracking and I know quite a few people who are running it. For your SRT I would say go with a true cold air intake that either AEM or Iceman makes. The Iceman is cheaper from Modern Performance.

The difference between a short ram and a true CAI is performance. The CAI is designed to get cooler, fresher air to the engine whereas the short ram will generally get warm air.
