Transmission lightrosco99 07-26-2005, 12:12 PM My wife owns a neon, and the transmission light came on in it a few days ago. Atleast I think that it was the transmission light. It is in the shape of a trans, and it's orange....Anyway... I checked the fluid, and it was low. I filled it up, and reset the light by contacting the negative and positive wires that connect to the battery. (Yes, they were disconnected from the battery) I drove it for about 32 miles, and it didn't come back on. We drove it the next day, and it came on within three miles. I was just wondering if there is a way that you can "pull a code" for the transmission light like you can a check engine light. I did the turn it on three times thing, and it gave me a code for the power steering switch, but I don't think that could be associated with the transmission. You never know, though. I work on helicopters, not cars! If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks Kevin rosco99 07-26-2005, 02:37 PM Ok, there isn't a transmission light. It is the check engine light. As I said in my post, I work on helicopters, not cars. The code that I am getting from the car is 0551, which is pwr steering switch. What is the power steering switch? Can the car be driven in this condition?? Thank you again for your help. Kevin das2123 07-26-2005, 03:02 PM The power steering switch controls the idle and/or help control the ac during high speeds and turns.....something about how it cuts the ac a little so the car can turn better. Someone, had that same problem and it turned out to be the connector to the switch was not seated snug, and he removed cleaned and reinserted and the code went away. If this doesn't work for you, then the switch is going to be around $120-$150 depending on your dealer or parts store. Oh and on the transmission fluid being low, make sure you only use ATF+4 in there. DO NOT USE Dexron/Mercon fluid. rosco99 07-26-2005, 11:20 PM Thank you very much! Do you happen to know where the switch is located? das2123 07-27-2005, 08:47 AM Thank you very much! Do you happen to know where the switch is located? On my '99, it is on the backside of the power steering gear close the front crossmember. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
