Reverse lights illuminate on keyless entry

Hello!

I just bought an '02 LTZ a couple of months ago and have enjoyed it. I've learned quite a bit from reading this forum, but haven't seen this pet peeve of mine addressed.....

When I unlock the vehicle using the keyless entry on the key fob, the reverse lights illuminate. Is this normal?

I can't tell you how many times I've unlocked the vehicle in a parking lot while walking to it, and had someone stop in their vehicle waiting for my parking spot, thinking I was backing out....but i'm not even to the car yet.

I too have an '02 LTZ. Somewhere in the options you can manipulate in the Driver Information Centre, you can opt to have exterior lights activate on unlock. I don't think you can isolate the back-up lights, but I think you can suppress all exterior lights.

hope that helps,
D.

Re: Reverse lights illuminate on keyless entry

yeh, it's a setting in the DIC labeled "perimeter light". You can turn it off.

I personally love this feature for the nuisance factor. I had people wait like you for my car to back out. Also I have had people walking, stop and wait, thinking I was backing out. Then I walk right by them. People have yelled... "look out, he's backing up!"

Heh...yeah...you'll get used to it. I used to hurry to get in and back out...but now I have more of a "possession is 9/10th" view point. If they have to wait 30 seconds...then so be it.

This feature is really great at night at Disney (or any other mass-exodus parking area)...instead of walking in front of the cars to see the headlights flash...I go behind. There aren't too many vehicles out there that illuminate their tail lights.
