What should I do to protect?

Hello!

New to the fourms and wanted to ask a question. Currently I have the following on my 99' Grand Prix GT (If it matters, has about 70k on it, with a recent tune up, full check):

U bend delete
Motorsports CAI (more like an open air intake)
SLP Loudmouth
DHP 1.0 PCM

I was just wondering if there is anything I should do as I plan to contiune modding (thinking headers next). Anything I should do with the plugs? wires? is a trans. fluid cooler a bad idea? Gonna do a tsat soon. Car's been running great, had it for 2 years, 0 problems outside of the AC dont working on "1," which doesn't really bother me.

These forums are great, tons of good info thanks for any help!

Mike

Re: What should I do to protect?

New plugs and wires are always a good idea. Headers will open up the exhaust and allow the engine to breathe much better. The t-stat will increase performance somewhat as well by keeping the engine cooler. The trans cooler is an excellent idea especially if you are going to hot rod it a bit. Heat is the killer of transmissions and a cooler is cheap insurance. As for the fan working on 1 you will need a new blower motor resistor. It is located next to the fan up under the dash. If you don't change it the fan will eventually only work on 5.

Re: What should I do to protect?

Sounds like your GT will be a nice ride man, I can't want to start to modify my '00 GT as soon as I get some extra cash (yea, I know, no such thing....haha)

But, I have a question, My fan does not work on 1 either, how much would it cost to but a new blower motor resistor? Can i install it myself and save money?

Thanks a lot

Forgot where I saw it, but its about a 20-25 dollar part, and is a do it yourself type of thing. I'll get back to you soon as I'm going to replace mine.

Good luck

The resistor can be replaced by anyone with basic hand tools. I recommend you remove the passenger seat for better access. It is way up under the dash. Remove the fan and motor and the resistor is next to the fan. Takes a couple of screws to remove and replace. Resistor costs between $25 and $40 depending on where you purchase it.

not to be a dick or anything, but why waste hundreds even thousands trying to mod a gt...you'll never get the performance you want out of it..the only thing i would do to a gt besides an intake would put a turbo on it for a couple grand, and youll run low 12's....the thousand dollars you already spent cut not even a second off quarter mile times, and when you want a faster car you will never get your money back out of it with the miles already on it.

Re: What should I do to protect?

I'm modding the GT because it's my current platform, and as of now, I have no other choice in cars. I mean, sure the engine is not as fast as the gtp's. but with the proper work it can get there, unless, of course, someone can list a few engines that will fit in my frame and give me about 400+HP without causeing damage?
