1997 s-10

a gut is giving me 1- he had problems out of it and decided to get a new truck and he is goin to give me his s-10- the problem as he was told by a shop is that the whole cooling system needs to be replaced- now i don't believe the whole cooling system is bad- is there any common problems associated with this truck so i will know where to start when i get it- thanks

yeah, if it has green in it, that is bad, should be a reddish or ornge color, if he or someone converted it to green that can be bad, other then that, the radiator cap needs replaced, but other then that theres nothing major for the cooling system that comes to mind

what is wrong with green???- is it more harmful to aluminum that is in it, or something???- well its free- even if i have to replace the whole cooling system, it will be worth it- it has under 100,000 miles on it- that is why i have my suspicion-

Hey man i had the same problem a shop cleaned out my cooling system and put green antifreeze in it and within 2 months it was all f***ed up the kind you need is orange dex-cool. it will say gm approved on it only use this trust me i learned from experience.

seince my last post in this thread ive learned why green is bad in the dex cool moters, no one sees a difference between the two, so when most people do their first flush (or even a shop does it as in spivey-1's instence) they put green in as a no big deal or difference, and the difference is, green and plastic don't get along, pre 96 the intake was graphite, and in 96 GM came up with this great idea to make the intake gaskets out of plastic and rubber, and that is what gets fucked up with the green in Dex-cool moters
