when the kickdown engages, the altenator seems to cut-out. The battery voltage guage dips and if I continue to hold the pedal down, the battery indicator will come on. This is since I had the oil in the transmission changed at the dealer(related?).

I had the same problem.. whenever I put the pedal to the metal, I could watch the voltage guage drop.

It has been a while.... I might of changed the alternator since then. or it may even be doing it still. I'll check tomorrow.

something about the alternator not charging at high RPM's....

Looks right. On park at high rpm it did the same thing. I put an ampmeter on the battery an confirmed that the altenator was no longer charging the battery, the battery was powering the vehicle. Thanks for the tip.

I suggest checking grounds in this case. I would also consider the possibility of a slipping belt on the alternator. Ray

I just double checked.. mine is still doing it. but not as often now. only when the motor is screaming !!! I don't have a tach, but I would imagine I'm reving 5000-6000 rpm when it happens.

and mine can NOT be the grounds. I added 2 ground straps when I changed the alternator 5 years ago. 1 in the front, the other in the rear.

either the belt is slipping, which I doubt, cause it's new, or the alternator brushes are getting weak.
