I am saving for an is200 but i think its such a pity that it comes with the pissy 1G-FE I6 instead of the 3S-GE I4 offerd in japan....
now i have to buy a 3S-GE and rebuild it cos its gonna be old and transplant it into the IS so its costimg me an arm and a leg

same question here...
the motor in the is300 is the same as the n/a supra... there is mad shiet for that motor... why swap it? and you can end up making more power witha turbo i6, as opposed to the i4

so what is the deal with importing that motor?

the 3S-GTE is used very widely among the JGTC and the Japanese community......its lighter wich means better handeling and ive heard can be used in the is200 to acheive 50/50 weight distribution when placed behind the front axel and a laid flat intercooler too....this engine can also give space for pushrod suspension if u really wanted it

they don't offer the is300 overseas yet, only the is200. But rumor has it the 300 will be in the UK next year.

The Altezza's BEAMS 3S-GE DUAL VVT-i in Japan is a hot little thing, much more technologically sophisticated than the 2JZ-GE used in the IS300. It may not seem like much, pumping 210 hp @ 7600 rpm via a 6-speed gearbox, but word has it that this is one of the most highly anticipated and spiritually capturing powerplants for a rear-wheel-drive compact sports sedan. Like power from Honda's F20C? Well the BEAMS 2.0 L comes close. It's great to have torque from a 3-liter, but all enthusiasts know that banshee four cylinders have something that can't be replicated in larger engines. The standard 3S-GTE is a bit different however, being built primarily with forced induction characteristics, but thats still one hell of an engine too, being also used in the JGTC Castrol Supras and Top Secret's GT300 flats speeder.

The benefit of the I4 is 200 hp in a lighter smoother revving package. Overall handling improved, acceleration improved. Now your car weighs less !!


Dropping a 4 in isn't so easy. 3sgte is usually mounted sideways, so you'll have to get custom engine mounts and bell housing. Either have them made, or import the true altezza parts.

YESS and you can also twin turbo a v6, more weight with twice the turbo and a lot of power.

I don't get this. There's a huge difference between an inline engine and a v-shaped engine. Different design and layout. Are you saying the v6 engine covers nearly the exact same volume (or space) as the i6 engine? I guess that can be considered "shape".

i think he means just the I6 that's in the in the IS and GS300

i think by V6.. he meant that it's a 6 cylinder inline engine

i dunno... i'm just tryin to make sense of it :D

I was wrong and so I was like yeah I called it a v6 because its in the sahpe of an I6.....just being dumb thats all....but yes I know the difference
