the wing

compare this picture:

R/T

with this one:

SRT-4

now... what is the wing actually doing, other then just being one less thing to be modified by people who go all out with body kits...

in my OPINION the wing on the R/T (which... looks bigger in real life then that picture up there... i have one) is big enough to say "yea... i'm badass". making the wing 2 to 3 times taller just give it that "ricer" look...

and the car is FWD, the wing is NOT making any downforce on the wheels that needs it... so preformance cant be used to back up the wing at all. (well, i've seen it pointed out that a wing will help on a FWD car, durring turning... at high speeds, but really now....)

i'm not saying having A WING is a bad idea, because i believe the one on the R/T (and an option on the SXT i think...) looks classy enough, and it tells other people that its not "just" another neon, which ofcourse is the main point. but they already have the hood scoop, the changed front grill, different rims, and a lip, as i think it's called?

what other opinions are out there?

I think the wing looks good Im not a fan of the big stupid alumium wings or anything bigger than that. The only reason it would look like a "ricer" wing is b/c thats what people like to put on there car that dont do anything else besides big mufflers and other crap its not our fault that ricers use them they look good

Re: the wing

The big spoiller does help A LITTLE on cornering at high speeds, but mainly its just for the looks. And it gives it a more aggressive look.

Re: the wing

I personally don't like many stock or aftermarket wings. My neon came with one and I took it off. If I do put a wing back on, the one pictured below will be the one.

Re: the wing

the wing is functional. if you ever take your car to the track, or do any high speed driving (other than straight ahead) you will notice a differnce! i have driven both setups and belive me there is a difference. why do you think that all touring cars, even FWD cars, have big wings? anything to stablize a car that is flying down the road is desired

Re: the wing

TEXSRT4 - i did mention about the whole high speed and turning thing in my post.

and... how many unmodified srt-4's do you think are gonna be competing with touring cars?

though... a srt-4 converted into a touring car would probably be pretty cool..

and SSSRT4, if you're talking about the wing on that blue and white neon, i think i remember seeing some BMW "wings" like that. though, if you mean the OLD camaro's, then yea, i see where you can get that.

like this one

Re: the wing

there are several of us who work on/drive srt touring cars! i know of 3 cars personally! but i will be totally honest with you. of the dozens of srts i personally know, the only stock ones are brand new, and are just waiting to be modded.

the car is capable of speeds that require the wing! that is why its on there. same reason the EVO and STI have tall wings! they are totally functional in even stock trim (which again is extremely rare in an srt). you dont buy an SRT to drive stock, just like you dont buy an EVO or STI

Re: the wing

hmm, got any pictures? i'd like to see this... or is it mainly internals that are changed? what do you ahve to do to a srt-4 to get it worthy of being called a touring car?

and... do you know of any srt4's that have been converted to AWD, if that's even possible?

Re: the wing

a touring car is a heavily modified, track car. it needs a roll cage, differnt fuel cell, full out race tires, and suspension so stiff it will make you pee blood! you strip all the interior out, run open exhaust and 5 point harnesses. also, any weight that can be stripped from the car, IS! they are rough, loud, mean, fast cars!!!

and no, its not resonable to convert an srt to AWD. im sure its possiable, but not very practicle. it would be VERY expensive
